for this comic, at first I was lazy to read the whole long paragraph so I tried to find something more entertaining about the monkey's paw because most of the story made by different websites are pretty much the same. Because so, I search on google and turns out there's a movie adaptation of it, so I watch those instead.

and after finishing the short movie, I tried to read the text provided by Mr. Hafiz and found the part where I want to turn into comic and its the part of how Mr. White got his hand on the monkey's paw.

after picking the part of the story, I started on doing the sketch and here's what I got

fig.1.2. story board sketch (14/12/24)

fig.1.3. cover sketch #1(14/12/24)

fig.1.4. cover sketch #2 (14/12/24)

after finishing most of the sketch, I just realize that there need to be some surrealistic element in them so I created another sketch of the cover after I researched online some surrealistic artwork

then, I send the sketches to mr. Hafiz to get some feedback and update him on the progress I'm making. he told me that the sketch is good, however I need to understand the transition, positioning and chiaroscuro that he explained about last week but I kind of forget all of them. so after the week 13 class, I fixed the position using an app called manekin where its a movable mannequin for poses that I used in my Ipad.

I had to go back hometown and got really distracted to finish my other assignments so I continued working on it on 30th December and sent him the digitized cover that's half done. he gave me some feedbacks about it a few days later and got right into working on it.

while waiting for his reply I also continued doing the webcomic and sent an update to him about it. I finished it 2 days before the deadline and finished the animation one day before the deadline. However, because I was doing something else in the process I couldn't screen record the animating GIF progress but got some screenshots

fyi, the part that I animated is the fire in the fire place, the fire on the next panel, and the pupils of the character when Mr. White was stopping Morris from throwing the monkey's paw because when someone's in a heavy emotional state their eyes would tremble like it's moving out of anger

for the cover, I used some pattern from pinterest to give them more texture.

Feedback

Week 12

he said that my composition is okay and that I need to know which transition im using and I can start digitizing it

Week 13

we had a consultation class and he says that my character positioning is a little bit off because its hard to recognise who is who if the position is messy

Week 14

he said that the skull angle in the cover could be more tilt down like what I did on my sketch and for texture, I could use my scratchy texture on my sketch as my reference. the tittle can be a illustrated type using the method when we were making poster

Reflections

when doing this final project, I learned more things like, what surrealistic is, how to recognise transitions when making comic, as I have made comics before and learning deeper explanation about it helps me improve. I also learned how to use more tools in adobe illustrator and after effects.
