Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Creative Media / Taylors University
on the first day of the event, I decided to go to Bukit Bintang with
Callegra. We ride public transport together. we arrived there perfectly at
2 PM and they were still practicing their lines to start the show. and while they were doing that, we explored and look into our seniors
artwork. It feels motivating to be able to see such artworks because I could
see how much effort they put into each pieces. I also met the entertainment
design Lecturer, Miss Anis and also the judge for our mural competition for
tomorrow. when we looked around, among all of the artworks that are displayed here are some that caught my
attention

fig.1.2. The art of Wander Into the Woods by Shan May
|
The reason why I like this design because of the vibrant choice of colors that
are put into the design not only that, the game atmosphere is giving something
like a game that got many story to tell. especially the character that has that
white mask on.

fig.1.3. Lem the Friendly Lemon by Nurul Adlina Binti Rizal
|
I like this one is because it's cute and simple. how each character
design is made with simple and smooth shapes, also the pastel color
choice is relaxing and suitable as a children show. because of its simple
shape and color palette, it will be easy to recognize by people.
To be honest, I found every artwork amazing, there's a lot of details put into it, different themes, also different concept. no only that there are 6 specialization so each of them have their own uniqueness. after the showcase we went out to find some food and went back to Taylors
at 4 and arrived at 5

DAY 2 - 6th October 2024
On the second day, I also went to The Starhill to participate in the
mural competition with my team which is group 6. three days before
the mural competition, we gather at the u- lounge together to discuss
about our mural drawing concept because we all happen to stay at u-res at
the moment. my teammates Katherine, Gaby, Felice, Aveline,
Jennifer and Celine already got an idea of the main object witch is a
collaboration of 7 artstyle into a one person because the theme is Unity
through diversity

what we think we could do is each person draw each side with their own style
and different features
|
fig.2.2. first attempt using crayons (03/10/24)
|
this is our first attempt drawing together and we used a A3 paper and
crayons. I feel like it didn't turn out pretty well so the next day they
bring their watercolors and gouache paint
|
fig.2.3. second attempt (04/10/24)
|
this time we used the coloring item that we are more comfortable with so we
used watercolor (me), crayons, and gouache paint.
|
fig.2.4. third attempt (05/10/24)
|
one day before the competition, some of our teammate didn't come to draw
together, so one of the paper is not there cause they bring it home separately.
we decide the position of each elements and swatch colors that are fitting for
each element and we call it a day.
DAY OF THE COMPETITION
on the day of the competition, we arrived
earlier than the competition time because we need to register, do briefing
on the competition and collect our materials. we were given 2 board as base,
2 A2 paper, and 3 box of Faber Castell coloring pencil. before we start we
just got informed that the majority of the mural drawings needs to be used
with color pencil and we didn't know that so we decided to use the color
pencil for the hair, the shirt and some other elements of the drawing.

On top are some pictures that we took the day of the competition. during
the judging time, we feel kinda confident with how it looks but didn't
think we will achieve that high. probably 2nd or 3rd place and when the
winner is announced. Turns out we got the 1st Place.

Reflection
It feels amazing to be able to achieve something like this, because it's
just the first few weeks of studying in Taylors and I just went for it . I've participated a lot back in high school
and often lose, because of that I lose my confidence when it comes to
participating in the competition. Even if there's no extra points for
participation, I would still participate for the experience and achievement.
Although this is a group competition, it gave me a boost of confidence on
pursuing art more and more. This experience made me happy. thank you for
holding this competition and giving us a chance to participate in it.
not only that I also get to see our seniors final project work that they must have been working on for the past few weeks and years of exercise.
