Lectures
on the 6th week, Mr. Fauzi looked at our work on the week 5 to check if our work is done. he gave us two exercise to do for this week assignments which is recoloring black and white. the first exercise was to color a black and white picture using the blending mode and the second exercise we need to extract colors from two different pictures and put the color into a black and white picture.

Tutorial

Mr. Fauzi gave us video tutorials about how to do a good photography and provide us three youtube links to watch

https://youtu.be/V7z7BAZdt2M
https://youtu.be/ffiJH5fUeN0

to summarize 1st video - PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS IN 10 MINUTES

ISO is the standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that represents sensitivity to light as a numerical value. the higher the ISO used when taking pictures the more light and noise so its better to keep it low

aperture is the opening in lens that allows light to enter the camera. the lower the number of aperture, the more lights enter and vice versa

shutter speed is the length of time your camera's shutter stays open, and therefore how long the sensor is exposed to light

the 2nd video - Creative Product Photography At Home - Beginner To Pro!

it discuss about how to do photography as a beginner and how it can be leveled up by just adding some things. for beginner, we can just start by a simple backdrop, camera, and lighting and it creates a simple picture of a single product, for intermediate, we could add some props to create some story for the products and for the pro we could add some motion by shooting the activity can be done with the product. from the video shown, the serum/ essential oil is opened to show the costumer what the product is

the 3rd video - Shooting one bottle with one continuous light and a smartphone

tells us about to do photography, we don't have to go all fancy with it. where in the video, the photographer used a bottle as a model, 3 reflective white background and a smartphone to take the picture.

Practical

Exercise 1

fig.2.1. exercise 1 tutorial

fig.2.2. exercise 1 coloring process. (28/10/24)

after I stopped the video recording I did more adjustment and layers to give it a little bit yellowish effect to make it more similar with the reference and here's the comparison of before and after

fig.2.3. comparison of before and after (28/10/24)

I also made a comparison between the reference and the one that I have done. the reference ison the left side and mine is on the right side.

Exercise 2

for this exercise we have to do the same thing but the the color that we use are from other model. we first got one black and white picture and two pictures of a model where we take one's hair color and the other's skin color to put in our black and white picture.

Picture 1
I tried to follow the tutorial step by step and used some clipping mask to put other effect and gradient. I thought I have screen record the process but I couldn't find the file. I also put the black and white picture at the end and overlay it so the shadow is more enhanced. I also cover it with blue and overlay it to give a little bit of ambient light

Picture 2
then as instructed we need to pick one picture to put color to and search the internet for the color reference. I was thinking to use the girl for black and white picture because I thought it will be easy. turns our because she have lighter color hair it is harder to select her the hair especially the thin strands. I also chose the tanned skin color and it turned out quite well. then, I observed her top clothes texture, I figured that its a jean material so I colored it with the classic jean colors. For the ginger hair, I colored it more with some shadow and struggled to find a fitting shade of the hair because the hair is lighter so it doesn't look the same as the picture that I picked. so I searched for different ginger hair shade and theres  lighter shade of it so I tried to get as close as that color.

Reflections

Experience

when doing this week practice, I experience some struggle especially choosing the fitting color and applying it to the picture with overlay and soft light. because when I draw over the lines of the other colors that I put before, it will make the colors collide and create a pretty bright lines and I have to erase and adjust it more. not only that, the colors that I picked from the picture sometimes don't appear the same as the color that I expected it to be. it could be either in different hues of different saturation and I still have to adjust the color.

Findings

I found that colors can appear different when you put it on different saturation.
