Week 1
on the first class meeting Dr. Wong are not able to attend the class so she is replaced by Mr. Sylvain with the minor project briefing and making group of min. 6 people of different specializations

our group members
Brenda Wynn, UI/UX (0372128) > Leader
Cindy Noverin, UI/UX (0376409)
An Hongzheng, Entertainment Design (0378415)
Chen Tianyao, Entertainment Design (0367550)
Fang Yaoyue, UI/UX (0372006)
Li Junwei, Graphic Design (0377779)

Week 2
on the second week we had an explanations about our client option and how we will be progressing our work later on on Figma and after further discussion and due to limited slots we chose to go with the Social AI Robot by the Active Aging Impact Lab with our client Associate Professor Dr. Izian Idris

Week 3
We had our first client meeting, and we all attended to the meeting to hear more about what they will be expecting on our project and our work.

not long after that, we did a desktop research to dig deeper on our target user which is baby boomers, we read through papers and articles about baby boomers and anything that revolves around it.

then following our findings we started on making question that we'll ask to the our interviewee, but before our week 4 class day we consulted once to hear Dr. Wong's feedback so that we are a little bit more ahead and could check with her again on what we did change on the day of week 4 class

Week 4
on this week we have finalized our question and started on reaching out to our interviewee and appoint a schedule for our interview sessions and my interviewee is my grandmother so my lecturer notes to differentiate between facts and assumptions because since my interviewee is a relative I need to keep track of what is said so its not biased.

Week 5
since every member is assigned to one interviewee, the baby boomers finished our interview faster while there is still some changes needed for our second targeted user so their interview is done on week6. for the members that are assigned as interviewers for the baby boomers, we did our transcript while the other help edit the interview video, while waiting for our 2nd target user response we did some of the affinity mapping on our way, but just highlighting some key points from the 3 elderly interview result and putting it on sticky notes

Week 6
during this week, we finished all our interview and started finishing the affinity map from on the interview results and groups them based on their mental wellbeing, relationships, behaviours, need, and preference that will help us on our future development.

after making the affinity map separately, we then synthesize them into one and created our user persona.

Week 7
one week before our second client meeting, we are introduced into some tools that could guide us through our define stage which is "How Might We?" and "POV".
we did crazy 8s during class and compile our idea into certain themes which then we agreed to include or to not include on our idea. we decided to make a companion robot but following our interview results the findings and our idea doesn't align. since we found that our interviewee lives with their family hence they feel less lonely and doesn't feel the need of a robot companion, this is also been pointed out by our client during the client meeting on the next week.

Week 8
we did online meeting and draw together on Canva to propose our developed idea based on the compiled crazy 8s

then 2 days consecutively we had online meeting to rehearse our presentation and help other members with memorizing and pronouncing the words. we also decided on a dress code for our presentation which is White-Blue

Week 9
we had our second meeting with Executive Professor Dr. Izian Idris, we had rehearsed 2 hours before the presentation and during the presentation we did our best in maintaining eye contact with our audience. the presentation went well but client suggest something that actually solves their problem statement and suggest we include the USP and make it lovable by elderly and not push them away from the technology more so w did more revisions on our ideation.

Week 10
this week we had another online meeting for adding more ideas to our robot to make it better.

we continued on redrawing our robot concept and did an unofficial concept testing just by asking them what they look like and ask them to describe them in 3 words, my interviewee mentions that our prototype is "cute, chubby and kid-like".

Week 11
We did an official concept testing to see which version of the robot does the our target user prefer and they suggest that both version has good functions but the 2nd version seem to have more flexibility, hence we chose to go with the 2nd version\

we shared some roles in making the robot design where, Yaoyue and Brenda work together on the animated introduction, Tianyao and Hongzheng work on the 3d model of the robot, then me and Junwei works on the packaging paticularly exterior packaging for Junwei and interior packaging is done by me.

Week 12
during this week we meet up together at X-space to finish our work quickly before some of us having to go back to hometown for christmas break. at the end of the week we had more revisions to adjust with the budget and functionality of the robot so we had to remake the animations, 3d model and packaging. I was in charge of the logo and packaging design. I also helped Junwei a bit on the exterior packaging design, in terms of the text formatting and the back side of the box

FEEDBACK

Week 1 & 2
No feedback still briefing

Week 3
we asked Dr. Wong about our interview question before the day of class to get some feedback in advance.
 1. Use a more general term
 2. inclusion criteria : have used mobilephone atleast 3 months
 3. exclusion : babyboomers that has experience
 4. user / persona group : babyboomers with medical conditions and loneliness or one thats living with family or the one thats not living with family.
 5. Not jump into ai robot
 6. first to find out about companionship
 7. what do you know about robot that could accompany you
 8. who do you think you would like to accompany you
 9. how do you think about a robot companion
10. is there a point in your life where you experience loneliness, how do you face it and if theres a thing that could change what would you want it to be or what would you do

Week 6
Feedback :
1. Shows the phase you’re in of the design thinking
2. Backgrounds : Explain the examples of similar projects , why coming up with the new one , Maybe because of the strength and weaknesses or etc
4. Purpose & goal make it easy to explain not just to read

Week 9
1. Unit selling point : why its better than other robot in the market.
2. Main reason because the elderly feel lonely. Important to have that the elderly feel like they’re not talking to a robot .
Something humanlike
Think that can accompany them
Really think about what the elderly needs

Week 11

•  Hmw choose one or more hmw that at the end has the result / relevant to
•  Include User journey map

Don’ts
•  Irrelevant images for decoration
•  Too distracting transitions

Direct feedback
•  Ex summary
•  High light different color
•  Make it more entertaining to see but not too much
•  Overview first, problem statement
•  Design thinking phase  put some glimpse of pictures of it
•  Mention number of interviewee, profile , language they use
•  Who are the targeted user
•  Method first, targeted user from the desktop research
•  Interview findings
•  Hmw revise

Week 14
from the client : its well done, but the conclusion and budget could be improved in terms of how much is the item one by one instead of making them into one. it would be good to break down the price one by one.

REFLECTION

Experience
doing this project really brings me out of the comfort zone. I sometimes would not like to do group project that much but this project has pushed me to be able to collaborate with other members with different specialization. Although there are times when I was unsatisfied, the whole experience with my teammate is wholesome, they are very fun to work with and sometimes we would laugh together, which makes the workload less boring.

Observations
Through this project, I discovered so much more about the elderly and the daily struggles they face. During our research and interviews, I observed that their relationship with technology is very sensitive. they don't just need a gadget, they need something that feels intuitive and approachable. I also observed how they value their independence, which changed how I viewed the "Social Robot" concept—it’s not just about fixing loneliness, but about adding value to their existing lifestyles without being intimidating.

Findings
I found that working with people you aren't familiar with just takes time and a bit of effort to adapt together. One of my biggest personal takeaways is the importance of communication. I realized that I need to speak my mind more clearly when I don't agree with something. In the past, I might have kept quiet, but I’ve learned that if I don't speak up when I’m not sitting well with a decision, I’ll only regret it at the end. Open communication is the only way to make sure the final outcome is something we are all proud of.
