MY WORK

the video link

for this project I chose to go with pasta granny's Granny Irma Apricot jam filled gnocchi because I think it's an unique recipe to look into so I started with a sketch

fig.1. Sketch

my sketch shows that my vision was to have the steps number aligned in the middle, with the object surrounding them.

fig.2. moodboard
during the consultation, Sir Martin asked for a reference so I made. a reference board of how I'd like my poster look like

FINAL PROJECT

we discussed on which recipe we will be doing for the final project and had agree on the gnocchi. we then made our own storyboard to see if our vision and flow are the same, and then discuss and ask our lecturer for feedback to see which fits better for the animated poster.

our reference video

visual reference

after the consultation on week 5 we started on timing the storyboard and arrange our task of who's taking the first 30 and who's taking the last 30 seconds and we had agree on :

task arrangement
Cindy : first 30seconds
Brenda : last 30seconds, joining 2 videos together

Final Storyboard and Timeline

I started first with redesigning my object to align our artstyle in the middle where it could look familiar even when its different art style, how we do that is by deciding how thick the outline of our object and how realistic we want the style is. I made them step by step following the storyboard and looking into what we need for each frame.

in the middle of finishing the whole object, I ran out of space so I made another art board but turns out It will be hard to show on after effect so I reunite them in the same art board and separate all the layers depending on what I want to animate later on after effects.

then I moved the ai files to after effect where I had my own storyboard aligned before and put the object depending on the timeline first. this part is quite exhausting because since there's so many objects it's really hard to manage and see them coming into one picture

then I started animating them and going back and forth in Illustrator because I realize I forgot for the steaming the potato part so I had to make it and go back to after effect. I continue on making the animation and timing for most of the last 3 days of submission. I think its very hard to time everything under 30 seconds even if we already have the timeframe distributed.

after animating all of the motion graphic, I started on putting text, then going through the internet to look for sound effects for each motions I have.

after finishing the sound effect, I tweaked some things and exported my video and send it to Brenda to complete the project.

FINAL RESULT

FEEDBACK

Week 4 :
Sir Martin said that my poster is good, just that it needs some adjustment in terms of the color and visibility of the text and how the main focus point doesn't really shine, so I adjusted them

Week 5 :
Sir Martin suggest that we use Brenda's version of storyboard because my storyboard leans more into an animation instead of motion graphic so we chose Brenda's.

Week 6-7:
no feedback , just updating progress

REFLECTION

Experience
Throughout Week 4 to Week 7, I worked on both the individual poster and the group motion graphic project based on the gnocchi recipe. For the poster, I explored visual composition starting from sketching, developing a moodboard, and refining the layout based on feedback. For the final project, I collaborated with my teammate to align our ideas, develop a storyboard, and divide tasks. I was responsible for the first 30 seconds of the animation, which involved redesigning assets, organizing layers, and animating them in After Effects. The process required constant switching between Illustrator and After Effects, as well as managing time constraints while ensuring the animation fits within the given duration.

Observation
I observed that planning plays a very important role, especially in motion graphics. Even though we had a storyboard, translating it into actual animation was more complex than expected. Managing multiple assets and layers became challenging, especially when adjustments were needed midway. I also noticed that consistency in art style between team members is crucial, and small details such as outline thickness and object style can affect the overall cohesiveness. Additionally, timing the animation within 30 seconds was more difficult than anticipated, as each movement needed to be clear yet concise.

Findings
From this project, I learned that clarity, consistency, and organization are key in both static and motion design. Feedback is important in improving visual hierarchy and communication, as seen in the poster adjustments. In motion graphics, proper file organization and planning ahead can reduce difficulties during animation. I also realized the importance of teamwork and compromise, especially when deciding on the storyboard direction. Overall, this project helped me better understand the workflow between design and animation, as well as improving my ability to manage time and adapt to challenges during the process.
