Reflections

Experience

my first semester in BDCM was something new for me. I finally learned something that I use to just ignore when doing something like design and it really opens my eye on how things work. especially when doing typography, I feel really guided every time there's a feedback session as in the past, I never got anyone in this kind of field to guide me whenever I participated in competitions. I also learned how to use various design software.

Observations

During this semester, I noticed how crucial the small details are in design. Whether it’s the spacing in typography or alignment, everything contributes to the overall impact of the design. I also observed that getting feedback is not just about fixing errors but understanding how others perceive your work. It taught me to be more open-minded and see my designs from a different perspective. I’ve also seen how different everyone’s design styles are, and it’s inspiring to learn from my peers’ creativity and approaches.

Findings

One major realization I had was how much thought goes into typography. It’s not just about picking a font, it’s about understanding the message, tone, and purpose behind it. I also discovered that collaboration and critique play a huge role in improving design quality. Before this, I relied mostly on self-assessment, but now I see the value of having a support system of lecturers and peers who can help push my work further. Lastly, I’ve learned that being patient with the process is key; great designs don’t happen instantly, but through exploration and refinement.
